APICS Educational and Research Foundation

Student Paper Competition

APICS student members can also receive recognition through the Donald W. Fogarty International Student Paper Competition, sponsored by the APICS Educational and Research (E&R) Foundation. Full-time and part-time students are eligible to submit papers for this competition, which encourages a better understanding of resource management. Cash awards are given for the best research papers submitted in both under-graduate and graduate categories at the regional and national levels. Papers on any relevant production and inventory management topic should be submitted to your local parent chapter. For additional information, call APICS Customer Service at (800) 444-APICS (2742) or (703) 237-8344, and ask for item #01002.

E&R Foundation Grants

The E&R Foundation reviews grant proposals for new research biannually. Grants are awarded to individual scholars and to research teams. These grants are ordinarily in the $1,000 to $5,000 range. For special competitions, higher cash awards may be made, as in the case of the second competition cosponsored with the Marketing Science Institute: Managing the Flow of Information in the Business Enterprise (1997). The first notifications for new requests for proposals (RFPs) go to members of the E&R Foundation's Academic Resource Database. Grant guidelines (item #01069) are available from APICS Customer Service. Applications for the Academic Resource Database are available through the APICS E&R Foundation at (800) 444-APICS (2742) or (703) 237-8344, ext. 2202.

George and Marion Plossl Doctoral Dissertation Competition

The E&R Foundation presents awards to Ph.D. candidates for the best doctoral dissertation on an important integrated resource management topic. Academic Workshops and Seminars

The APICS E&R Foundation sponsors workshops for students and faculty. Programs are designed to promote new research, introduce curriculum changes in production and operations management, and integrate business and engineering curricula. Programs include hands-on workshops for faculty development with production simulators. Recent areas of special interest include putting research into practice for supply chain managers, constraints management, and case studies showing the application of the APICS body of knowledge in the service sector.
